Principal's Corner

December 2014

(Nov. 25, 2014) Last week, our 8th graders attended the annual Washington DC trip. The visits to the US Capitol, White House, Holocaust Museum, Air & Space Museum, WWII, Vietnam War Wall, Korean War Memorial, Thomas Jefferson and Lincoln Monuments, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, and so many other places of historical significance were truly awesome. Your children’s behavior was exemplary and we were complimented at every visit for their behavior and maturity. I could not be more proud of our students and how they represent our community. I would also like to publicly thank Congressman Chris Gibson and his wonderful staff for helping to coordinate the House of Representatives and White House tours. And of course, a great big thank you to Mrs. Lara Marotta for her steadfast dedication to our students and for providing them memories of a lifetime. And thanks to Mr. Hanna and Ms. Zorzi, the 8th grade students who did not attend the DC trip, attended a field trip to our state’s capital. If you haven’t been there since the renovations, we highly recommend that you do. It’s a great trip for the whole family.

On December 5, our entire fourth grade will be visiting the Martin Van Buren gravesite to celebrate MVB’s birthday (December 5, 1792) and the historical significance of his Presidency. Friends of Lindenwald will be generously providing transportation costs as well as providing our 4th graders with donuts and apple cider.

Our Winter Concerts are scheduled for December 3 for Grade 5 at 6:30 PM and Grade 6 at 7:30 PM. The 7th/8th Grade Jazz Band and Sing Swing is scheduled for December 10 at 7:00 PM. We hope to see you there! December 12 we are scheduled for a half-day (Staff Development Day) and our Winter Recess is from December 22-January 2 (students return on January 5.

I sincerely wish all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and a Happy Kwanzaa. If you are traveling, please be careful. Let’s hope that 2015 will bring joy and prosperity to all of us!

October 2014

We are off and running at Ichabod Crane Elementary/Middle School. We have had a very smooth opening and I am very proud of the students. Also, it was great seeing many of you at our Elementary Open House, and our Middle School Open House.

On September 24 students in grades 6-8 attended the Quest for Respect
assembly. It was a fantastic program that promoted the students to respect others and they will in turn be respected. I would like to thank our PTA for funding this program, as they do every year.

Our AM/PM drop-offs and pick-ups seem to be going very well. As a reminder, for AM drop-offs, please use the side lot and drop-off your child at the crosshatch. We have two staff members stationed there and we are having students dropped-off four/five cars at a time. Please do NOT drop off your child at any other location during the drop-off period (7:25—7:35 AM). This is for the safety of your children. Also, please do not drop off your children before 7:25 as we do not have supervision available for them.

School Picture Day for 4th and 5th grades is scheduled for Thursday, October 9. For students in grades 6-8, Picture Day is scheduled for October 22 & 23.

As always, if you ever have a concern, please feel free to contact me.
