Ichabod Crane Transportation Department Earns 100 Passing Rating on New York State DOT School Bus Safety Inspection

(June 10, 2014) The Ichabod Crane Central School Transportation Department earned a 100 percent rating on a New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) school bus safety inspection report for the period of April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014.

Of the 115 vehicle inspections conducted by NYSDOT during this timeframe, 100 percent passed. The DOT wants to see an Inspection Pass rate of 90% or higher. All school buses are subject to a comprehensive inspection by NYSDOT at least every six months. Additionally, the Out-of-Service rate (the percentage of vehicles placed out of service due to significant defects) averages 6.5 percent across the state. None of Ichabod Crane's vehicles were placed out of service and therefore the district's OSS rate is 0 percent.

Superintendent George Zini attributed the district's positive results to the transportation department's commitment to safety, the annual bus replacement plan and the work of the district's mechanics.
