Board of Education Adopts 2017-18 Proposed Budget; Budget Hearing May 2

(April 13, 2017) At its meeting on Wednesday, April 12, the Ichabod Crane Board of Education unanimously adopted the proposed budget for the 2017-2018 school year.

The $39,189,544 spending plan is an increase of $1,055,557, or 2.77 percent, from the current year’s budget. If approved by voters, it would result in a tax levy increase of 1.47 percent, which meets the district’s legal limit under the state’s tax levy cap legislation. Therefore, Ichabod Crane’s proposed budget requires approval by a simple majority to pass.

The final state budget allocates $15,020,622 in State Aid to Ichabod Crane for 2017-18 – an increase of $828,002 over the current year.

Residents are encouraged to attend the Public Budget Hearing on Monday, May 2 at 7 p.m. in the Ichabod Crane High School library. The annual budget newsletter containing details of the adopted spending plan, Board of Education candidates and bus purchase proposition will be mailed to all residents after the budget hearing.

Voting will take place on Tuesday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Ichabod Crane High School Gymnasium.
