Board Appoints Alexis Hoffmann as Student RepresentativeAlexis Hoffmann

(Aug. 30, 2016) The Ichabod Crane Board of Education is pleased to announce its student representative for the 2016-17 school year. Ichabod Crane High School senior Alexis Hoffmann was appointed by the Board at its Aug. 16 meeting. She is the high school's third student to serve on the board.

We asked Alexis to provide information about herself.

"I've been in 4-H since I was five, working in a variety of project areas including sewing, dairy cattle, cooking, and public presentations. I sew garments for the 4-H Fashion Revue every year and for the past three years, my work has been selected to be presented at the New York State Fair. I show dairy cattle at the Columbia County Fair in 4-H Showmanship and Diary Animal Classes, as well as on Open Show Day. This year, I was selected to talk to the Extension Board of Supervisors to discuss my extensive experiences with 4-H and its positive influence on my life. Through 4-H I was SafeSitter Certified.

I grew up going to church at the First Presbyterian Church of Valatie and I am now a confirmed member of the congregation. I regularly assist with the worship service and help with fundraisers like our Turkey Dinner and Plant and Bake Sale.

I was inducted into the National Honor Society this past May. I was a Rider of the Month back in December 2014. I'm a member of Book Club, French Club, and Stage Crew. I also play Keyboard for the Marching Band. I've gone to All County with Chorus three times, as well as Area All State once. I have gone to NYSSMA three times as a solo vocalist. I am the president of Ichabod Crane's Habitat for Humanity Club and the Vice President of it's Pride Club. I'm a consistent AP and Honors student. I also played two years of Modified Soccer in 7th and 8th Grade.

I am a member of the Kinderhook Memorial Library's Teen Advisory Board and I assist with fundraisers and events for the library. I also have performed in two of their Murder Mystery Dinner Theaters and will be performing in the upcoming one.

I am honored to have been selected by my educators to be the Student Representative to the Board. I am eagerly anticipating learning about the board and how it works. I also look forward to the opportunity to represent my peers and their opinions to the best of my ability. I would like to thank Mr. Shull, Mr. Zini, Mr. Welcome and the Board of Education for this amazing opportunity to serve my school."

Congratulations Alexis!
