Modified Baseball Season Wrap Up from Coach Bob Hanna

Modified Baseball Team

June 6, 2017

This year the Modified Baseball Team finished the season with a 9-2 record. We were able to be competitive in every game due to our tremendous pitching, solid defense and timely hitting. I am very proud of the way the boys carried themselves on and off the field.

The pitching staff was lead by Aidan Frick who had a 0.00 earned run average and 50 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched. The rest of the starting pitchers were Logan Daley, Connor Bailey and Reid Murray who all pitched extremely well in pressure situations and combined to pitch 45 innings and recorded 60 strikeouts between them. Valuable innings were also pitched by Connor Dawes and Justice Suafoa who pitched 9.1 innings allowed 0 runs and had 14 strikeouts combined.

Our catchers this year were Austin Zlomek and Gunnar Grethen- Mclaughlin who provided solid defense and excellent pitch calling. Gunnar also contributed a .480 average, 6 RBIs, and 8 runs scored.

Our first basemen this year were Connor Dawes and Connor Bailey. Both boys had a .333 average and combined for 9 RBIs and 13 runs. Our second basemen this year were Christopher Pelesz and Satchel Baumgartner. They both provided the team with excellent defense and great range. They had a combined 10 runs scored this season. Our shortstops and Third basemen this year were Logan Daley and Justice Suafoa and Reid Murray, who provided veteran leadership for the team and a solid line of defense on the left side of the infield. Reid led the team with a .486 batting average,11 RBIs and 12 runs scored. Justice had the second most runs with 11 and Logan second most RBIs with 9.

Our four 8th grade outfielders were Aidan Frick, Jason Craig, Aidan Swere and Michael Hall. Aidan Swere lead the team with 12 stolen bases on the year and provided a spark as the leadoff hitter. Michael, Jason and Aidan Frick combined to score 17 runs on the season. Our 7th grade outfielders were Holden Reynolds and Zachary Zeyak. Zach batted .286 with 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Holden provided 7 RBI and 2 extra base hits on the season.

All in all the team did a great job applying the skills that the learned during practice in the games that they played. This group of boys has a promising future ahead of them on the baseball diamond as players for Ichabod Crane in the future and more importantly as future young men in our community. It was my pleasure to coach them this year.

Thank you,
Coach Bob Hanna
