(Oct. 6, 2016) In September, the Ichabod Crane Board of Education appointed Daniel Cohn of Stockport and Michael Stead of Valatie to fill vacancies created by the resignations of John Chandler and Tracy Farrell. Both will serve until May 16, 2017. New York State law allows school boards to fill such vacancies by appointment until the next regular election in May.
A graduate of Ichabod Crane, Cohn has worked for the Department of Treasury since 1990. He has also served as pastor at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant since 2012.
In the community, Cohn has coached in the Crane Soccer Club since 2009. In addition to coaching, he serves on the club’s executive board as treasurer. Cohn is also a volunteer firefighter and chaplain for the Palmer Engine & Hose Company in Kinderhook.
Cohn earned his bachelor’s degree from Siena College and graduated from Concordia Seminary. He and his wife, Christine, have two sons, one who is a junior at Ichabod Crane High School and the other who graduated in June.
Stead has served as a fourth grade teacher in the Chatham Central School District since 2004. Stead served several districts as an art teacher and is also an author, designer and illustrator. He was also a tenured teacher in the Ichabod Crane CSD where he taught fourth grade from 1998-2001.
Stead earned his master’s degree in education from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and art studio from SUNY Potsdam. He holds permanent teaching certifications N-6 and K-12 art.
In the community, Stead coaches soccer for the Town of Kinderhook and is actively involved with St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie. He and his wife, Rachel, have three sons who attend Ichabod Crane schools.
