(Jan. 5, 2017) The Stuyvesant Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9593 conducted its annual Voice of Democracy competition recently at Ichabod Crane High School with the assistance of English teacher Ms. Connie Melone. Students submitted recorded essays of the theme "My Responsibility to America."

This year's winners in the competition are as follows:

First Place - Meredith Richards with an award of $300
Second Place - Mikaela Everett with an award of $200.
Third Place - Mary Rose Bartkus with an award of $100.

Although Meredith and Mikaela didn't win at the next level--the district level--they should be very proud of their accomplishments!

The Voice of Democracy is a national competition in which contestants submit a recorded essay on the specified theme. The winner at the national level receives a trip to Washington, D.C. and a $25,000 scholarship.

Congratulations Meredith, Mikaela and Mary Rose!
