Board of Education Adopts 2018-19 Proposed Budget; Budget Hearing May 1

(April 18, 2018) At its meeting on Tuesday, April 12, the Ichabod Crane Board of Education unanimously adopted the proposed budget for the 2018-2019 school year. The spending plan not only maintains all current programs, but provides increased support to meet students’ needs.

The $40,190,782 spending plan is an increase of $1,001,238 or 2.55 percent, from the current year’s budget. If approved by voters, it would result in a tax levy increase of 2.59 percent, which is below the district’s legal limit under the state’s tax levy cap legislation. Therefore, Ichabod Crane’s proposed budget requires approval by a simple majority to pass.

In addition to voting on the proposed budget, residents will elect three members to the Board of Education and decide on two additional propositions—one to create a Capital Reserve Fund and one to purchase four school buses.

Residents are encouraged to attend the Public Budget Hearing on Monday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the Ichabod Crane High School library. The annual budget newsletter containing details of the adopted spending plan, Board of Education candidates and bus purchase proposition will be mailed to all residents after the budget hearing.

Voting will take place on Tuesday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Ichabod Crane High School Gymnasium.
