2017 – 2018 JV Boys Basketball

Submitted by Coach Call

The 2017/2018 JV basketball season was about growth and a commitment each day towards improvement. This year’s squad was young in age, but showed great maturity. Eight out of the 13 athletes on the team were either first time JV players. At times our youth showed; however each game provided a new learning experience that was improved upon as the season progressed. The boys competed each game against some tough competition. The sophomores on the team provided great experience and leadership for the younger players. I was extremely encouraged with each member on this team as the season went on. It is a testament to the character and resiliency of the boys on the team to show up every single night. I appreciate their hard work, and look forward to working with several of them next year.

I’d also like to take a minute to share my appreciation for the parents of this year’s team. The student athletes were always on time for games/practices. Special thanks are also deserved to Jim & Cheryl Antalek throughout the season helping me keep stats during games, and to my father Ted Call for his hard work each game keeping the book. Special thanks to Tim Stewart (Athletic Director) and the Booster Club for helping us have a smooth season. Lastly, I’d like to thank head varsity basketball coach Will Ferguson and assistant coaches Chris Muller, Mike Hoose, Dave Dellehunt & my bench coach (Matt Ragosta) for their insights into the game of basketball throughout the year. Although the number of wins was not as high as we set out in the beginning of the season, everyone involved in the program can see great improvement from where we started. The things we were undefeated in this year include skills like: character, volunteerism, dedication, hard work/effort, teamwork & perseverance. In my opinion, these skills are far more valuable than any JV win could have brought.
