2018 AWARDS

ART CLUB AWARD…..Emily Buono and Kathryn Ploss
This award is presented to a graduating senior(s) who is actively involved in visual arts through exhibitions, art club membership, and/or community service. 

BAUSCH & LOMB HONORARY SCIENCE AWARD…..Habib Affinnih
This award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement and superior intellectual promise in the field of science.

BLUESHIELD SCHOLAR AWARD.....Saege Lasher
This award recognizes a senior who is pursuing higher education for a career in the fields of health or human sciences. The student must represent BlueShield’s core values of: Respect, Excellence, Passion, Personal Responsibility, Teamwork, and Integrity.

COLUMBIA COUNTY ASSOC. OF TOWN SUPERINTENDENTS AWARD…..Matthew Ragosta
This award is given to a graduating student who has been accepted by an accredited college in the field of Engineering relating to the design and construction of infrastructure; this student must be a good citizen, and well-rounded individual.

COLUMBIA COUNTY FARM BUREAU AWARD.....Emily Canuteson
This award is given to a student who will be furthering his or her education in the field of agriculture or related studies.

COLUMBIA GREENE BOARD OF REALTORS.....Adam Rivenburgh
This award is given to a student who is outstanding in business and who will be attending Columbia Greene Community College for business.

CHRISTIAN CORRADINO MEMORIAL AWARD.....Tanner Mulica
This award is presented to a graduating senior who has shown significant improvement in baseball.

MIKE DI GIOIA MEMORIAL AWARD.....John Wheeler
The award is presented to the student who holds the rank of third in the class.

FREDERICK DOUGLASS & SUSAN B. ANTHONY AWARD.....Habib Affinnih
This award is presented to a student who demonstrates outstanding commitment to social justice.

WILLARD C. DRUMM MEMORIAL AWARD.....Adam Rivenburgh
The award is presented to a student who is actively involved in the community.

ALICE & MURRAY GIDDINGS FOUNDATION AWARD.....Habib Affinnih
This award is presented to a senior who possesses the following qualities: scholarship, citizenship, leadership, perseverance, resourcefulness, and patriotism.

E. JOYCE GOULD ROBINSON AWARD.....Jessica Alessi
This award is to honor long time Ichabod Crane High School Social Studies teacher Joyce Gould Robinson. This award is given to a student who best exemplifies the ideal that Ms. Gould Robinson lived by and instilled in her students, including a passion for U. S. History, a civic-minded spirit, and a drive to better the school and local community.

HUDSON VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOOK AWARD.....Saege Lasher
This award is presented to a student who exemplifies hard work and individuality and who will be attending Hudson Valley Community College in the fall semester.

ICHABOD CRANE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT AWARD.....Caesar Ferrari
This award is given to a student who shows outstanding ability, achievement, and dedication to the study of English.

PATRICIA A. MAC DOWELL AWARD.....Caroline Clickman
This award is given to a student who personifies Ms. Mac Dowell’s great contributions of instilling awareness, tolerance and understanding of cultural and ethnic differences.

ICHABOD CRANE MATHEMATICS AWARD.....Habib Affinnih
This award is given to students who show a love and desire for learning math.

KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.....Kathryn Ploss and Emma Zlomek
This award is given in recognition of exemplary community and /or extra- curricular service to community or school.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY AWARD .....Caroline Clickman
This award is given to a member of the local chapter. Selection is based on the students who most exemplify the qualities of National Honor Society membership: scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

OPERATION UNITE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARD.....Matthew Ragosta
This award is presented to a graduating senior who has shown outstanding academic achievement and has demonstrated service toward school and community.

OUR COMMUNITY CARES AWARD.....Kelsey Bartle
This award is presented to a senior who plans to further his/her education in the human services field, or a student who is selfless in nature, and volunteers their time in the community.

JEAN ROECK AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN CREATIVE WRITING.....Sarah Race
This award is presented to a student for outstanding achievement in creative writing.

ROBERTA ROSE AWARD.....Ivan Gomez-Martinez
Awarded to a college-bound senior selected by the friends of Roberta Rose, a special education teacher at Ichabod Crane for over 30 years. This student, like Roberta, demonstrates perseverance, compassion, a continual and contagious positive outlook, acceptance of all others and circumstances, and an ability to see things through “rose colored glasses”.

SALA LATINA/ INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORGANIZATION AWARD.....Larissa Gomez
This award is given to an outstanding senior member of SALA Latina/International Student Organization who has demonstrated leadership in, and a commitment to, the Latino and International community. This year’s scholarship is awarded in loving memory of Junior Martinez, Ichabod Crane Class of 2015.

GERALDINE SCHERMERHORN MEMORIAL AWARD.....Alex Gomez, Larissa Gomez and Sarah Race
This award is given to a student(s) who values education, is responsible, hard working, and wishes to continue his/her education.

SENIOR BEST CITIZEN AWARD.....Jessica Alessi
Awarded to a student who possesses positive citizenship qualities. Selected by the High School faculty.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD.....Saege Lasher and Matthew Ragosta
The recipient is community minded in their school and home community. The Rotary interviews the applicants and selects the recipients.

STATE OF NEW YORK OFFICE OF THE COMPTROLLER AWARD.....Jessica Alessi
This award is presented to a student who has shown academic excellence, and potential for leadership through activities that improve the school and or community.

TECHNOLOGY AWARD.....Ryan Ford
This award is presented to an individual who worked hard in class, was polite, and always willing to help fellow classmates.

TRIPLE “C” AWARD.....Larissa Gomez and Shelby Kline
This award is presented to a student(s) who has been recognized for his or her “Character, Courage and Commitment”, and who has shown a commitment to learning, to their community, and to their fellow classmates.

MARTIN VAN BUREN AWARD.....Kristen Bertrand
This award is given to an outstanding history student.

WENDY’S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN AWARD.....Alexandria McKearin
Given to a student who gives back to their community, leads by example, and shares their passion for excellence in the classroom and on the athletic field.

This award is presented to a graduating senior boy and/or girl whose actions best exemplify positive leadership as recognized by the building principal.

DANA V. FLAX AWARD.....Nolan Armstrong
This award is presented to a student who demonstrates a strong sense of individuality, openness to learning, and a sense of humor.

LAWRENCE E. LOUCKS AWARD.....Matthew Quigley
This award is presented to a student possessing the qualities of Mr. Loucks: perseverance, hard work, and dedication to school.

LEVERETT F. MANSFIELD MEMORIAL AWARD.....Habib Affinnih
This award is presented to a graduating senior who approaches each day with dignity, cheerfulness, and consideration of others.

2018 Scholarship Recipients

ARMY ROTC SCHOLARSHIP.....Adam Cole
This scholarship represents full four year tuition to a college of the student’s choice. The recipient must have demonstrated a meritorious record in academics, extracurricular and athletic participation, and exhibit exceptional leadership potential.

EMMA KATE BRECKINRIDGE PURPLE STAR SCHOLARSHIP.....Madyson Mulyca
This scholarship is presented to a graduating senior for outstanding musical or poetic achievement, based on an administrator and/or teacher recommendation.

JAMES & MILDRED BRIGNULL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Chloe Pratt
The recipient of this scholarship exemplifies an all around good student, with a sincere interest in helping others and his/her community. This student must have a positive attitude and outlook on life and be known for his/her “cheery disposition.”

CITIZENSHIP SCHOLARSHIP.....Jessica Alessi
This scholarship is presented to a student who has participated in student government, has accomplishments in community service activities, and good grades in social studies.

CLASS OF 2018 SCHOLARSHIP.....Emma Zlomek
This scholarship is voted on by the Senior Class and presented to a student(s) who has contributed most to the class.

CLASS OF THE ‘80s MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Alexandria McKearin
In memorium to our classmates who are gone but not forgotten. Given to a graduate of the Class of 2018 who has been accepted to an accredited college to major in an area of study related to Human Services.

JACKIE DAVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Jessica Alessi
This scholarship is presented to a boy or girl who has exhibited the following qualities in high school:  a sense of humor, loyalty to the school, a pleasing personality, and commitment to academics.

VAL FARINACCI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Jessica Alessi
This scholarship is given in loving memory of a wonderful and extraordinary man who gave so much of himself to his family and his community.

SHARON GAFFNEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Hailey Erlichman
This scholarship is presented to a student who is an avid and enthusiastic reader, is generous and a good listener, and has a concern for all living things, especially animals.


JERRY B. GOULD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Caesar Ferrari, Peyton Mavrides, Matthew Ragosta and Emma Zlomek
This scholarship is presented to graduating seniors who were active participants in the Ichabod Crane Varsity Basketball program. These students must have demonstrated positive qualities of enthusiasm, team spirit, sportsmanship, cooperation, and must be formally accepted at a post-secondary school.

WALTER & MARIE HABECK SCHOLASTIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP.....Benjamin Cohn and Chad Salazar
This scholarship is presented to a graduating senior who has achieved the highest scholastic average, and intends to pursue a graduate degree in Engineering or a related field.

HUDSON RIVER BANK & TRUST CO. FOUNDATION CITIZENSHIP SCHOLARSHIP.....Maria Schermerhorn and Habib Affinnih
This scholarship is presented to a senior who has demonstrated a high level of citizenship and community involvement throughout his or her high school career as evidenced by their participation in school, church, charity, civic organizations, or other community groups.

ICHABOD CRANE BUS DRIVERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Dell Potts
In memory of Wanda Poucher, Charles Pulver, Sr., Judith Edwards & Helen Dugan. This scholarship is presented to graduating seniors going on to college. Special consideration is given to students related to department employees.

ICHABOD CRANE RETIRED TEACHERS’ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Juan Loyola
This scholarship is presented to a graduating senior pursuing a career in education.

ICHABOD CRANE TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP.....Ashely De Kraai, Amanda Calvin, Larissa Gomez and Emma Zlomek
These scholarships are to be presented to deserving students over a period of four years. In order to qualify, the students must have shown a commitment to academics throughout their high school careers. Presented to Ichabod Crane High School seniors who plan to attend college, become a future educator, or pursue a career in the STEM field.

This scholarship is presented to a graduating senior who possess a passion for sports, health, and science.

This scholarship is presented to a student who is in good academic standing, is a good citizen, and is involved in school and community events.

This scholarship is awarded to a student who will be majoring in Music or the Performing Arts. In loving memory of Class of 1999 Alumnus George Jeffrey Lovell, an active member of the music department, theater, and stage crew at Ichabod Crane High School.

This scholarship is given to a student who is a dependent of a current or former member of the above.

NORTHERN COLUMBIA COUNTY LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP.....Caroline Clickman
This scholarship is selected by the Lions Club, and is presented to a student who demonstrates scholarship and service to the community.

THOMAS R. ROWLEY MEMORIAL ART SCHOLARSHIP.....Kelsey Barlte, Brianna Bruno, Courtney Geddes and Raquel Kafka
This scholarship is given to a student(s) for outstanding achievement in the High School Art Program. Recipient selected by the High School Art Department.

THOMAS R. ROWLEY MEMORIAL BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP.....Emma Zlomek
This scholarship is presented to a senior girl basketball player or a senior girl athlete.

This scholarship is awarded to a hardworking and dedicated member of Student Council.

This scholarship is given to a college-bound senior who excels in, and has great enthusiasm for, the sciences.

TEACHER OF TOMORROW SCHOLARSHIP .....Shelby Kline
This scholarship is presented to a senior who will be pursuing a career as a teacher.  This scholarship is presented in honor of Muriel and Frank Fusco.

ALLEN J. THOMAS, JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Caroline Clickman
This scholarship is presented to a senior who plans to continue his or her education in the field of business.

MARGARET TORRE PLUMMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Kelsey Bartle
This scholarship is presented to a graduating senior who has shown initiative throughout their high school years.

TOWN OF STUYVESANT KEN HUMMEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Benjamin Cohn
This scholarship is given in memory of Kenneth Hummel, a past Councilman of the Town of Stuyvesant who served with distinction for many years. It is presented to a deserving graduate who will be continuing their education in the field of either agriculture or construction.

CHRIS VOLNEY SCHOLARSHIP.....Merle Curran-Ackert and Bray Kowalski
This scholarship is presented to a student who will be furthering his or her education in the field of agriculture or related studies.    

                
VIVIAN & SAMUEL WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.....Juan Loyola
This scholarship is awarded to a senior boy or girl who will be pursuing a degree in agriculture, with preference to students pursuing the dairy field, specifically. If no student has chosen to study agriculture, then a student whose family is involved in agriculture is eligible.
