Marcella Sanchez Appointed Ichabod Crane Elementary/Middle School Assistant Principal

(June 20, 2018) At its meeting on June 19, the Ichabod Crane Board of Education approved the appointment of Marcella Sanchez to the position of assistant principal of Ichabod Crane Elementary/Middle School, effective July 23, 2018. Ms. Sanchez replaces Anthony Marturano, who will transition to the assistant principal position at the high school on July 1. Mr. Marturano replaces Daniel Farley who will continue to work at the high school as an English teacher.

Sanchez has been employed by the Germantown Central School District since 2007. She is a special education teacher for grades 9-12 and is the district-wide transition planner and work-based learning coordinator. She has taught a number of Regents level Social Studies and science courses. Through an administrative internship at Germantown Central Schools, Sanchez gained extensive administrative experience. Among her work, she planned and conducted professional development workshops and faculty meetings on technology use, special education and learning standards, served on several leadership committees, created the Graduation for All Committee, conducted conferences with students and parents and improved scheduling and other operations.

“We are excited to have Marcella join our administrative team,” said Superintendent Michael Vanyo. “She comes highly recommended from Germantown and background and skills make her an excellent fit to work with Mr. Farley in the Middle School.”

Sanchez holds New York state certifications in School Building Leader, School District Leader, Adolescent Education Grades 7-12 Social Studies and Students with Disabilities Grades 7-12 Social Studies. She earned a master’s degree in Education and a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and History, both from SUNY New Paltz.

“I am very excited to join the administrative team at the Ichabod Crane Elementary and Middle Schools. The warm welcome I have already received from the district has made me excited and ready to get to work,” Sanchez said. “I look forward to meeting all of the students, parents, faculty, and staff that make Ichabod Crane such a great place to be.”
