ICHS Recognizes "Top 10" Academic Seniors



(June 15, 2018) The "Top 10" of the Ichabod Crane High School Class of 2018 were recognized at Senior Awards Night on June 14. Congratulations to the following on their academic success:

Caesar Ferrari is the valedictorian of the Class of 2018. He is the son of Michael and Nancy Ferrari. Caesar is a member of National Honor Society and is a Rider of the Month student. He was the recipient of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal, the Rochester Institute of Technology Computing Medal and the Cornell Award. Most recently, Caesar was selected to take part in the Law Day Celebration ceremony. As an Ichabod Crane athlete, Caesar has participated in interscholastic sports as a member of the baseball and basketball programs. He has been recognized repeatedly as a scholar athlete and is also a member of the Varsity Club. Caesar is an avid volunteer, most notably for the IC Primary School Backpack Program and for the Ronald McDonald House of the Capital District. Caesar will attend The State University of New York at Binghamton in the fall to major in biochemistry.

 

Amanda Calvin is the salutatorian of the Class of 2018. She is the daughter of James and Jean Calvin. Amanda is vice president of the Class of 2018, president of the Crane Acting Troupe and a member of Interact Club and National Honor Society. She is the recipient of the Clarkson Leadership and Achievement Awards and is a Rider of the Month student. Throughout her senior year, Amanda attended Questar III’s New Visions Visual and Performing Arts program based at The Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy. Amanda volunteers each year at the Columbia-Greene Relay for Life benefiting the American Cancer Society. She has received the presidential scholarship from Wagner College where she will attend college in the fall to major in arts administration.

 



John Wheeler is the son of Michael and Cynthia Wheeler. He is a member of National Honor Society, Varsity Club and French Club. John is an AP Scholar and Rider of the Month student. He is the recipient of the Bausch & Lomb Science Award. As an Ichabod Crane athlete, John played varsity baseball for five years and has been named a scholar athlete several times. He will play Division 1 college baseball for Siena College. John has been involved in St. John’s Youth Ministry program, Columbia Clippers Youth Baseball and Booster Club summer camp. At Siena, John will study biochemistry.

 

 

 

Tanner Mulica is the son of John and Kathy Mulica. He is a member of National Honor Society and a Rider of the Month student. Tanner is multiple scholar athlete and played for Ichabod Crane’s baseball program and the Columbia Clippers travel team. He recently received the Varsity Club’s baseball “Hustle Award.” Tanner has volunteered to help at the ICC Craft Fair, St. John’s CYO basketball, concession for Ichabod Crane sporting events and Regeneron Kids Day. He will attend Binghamton University in the fall to study business.

 

 

 

 

Angelika Nelson is the daughter of Drew and Pam Nelson. She is a member of National Honor Society, a Rider of the Month student and treasurer of the Class of 2018. Angelika attended New Visions Scientific Research and World Health program. She played varsity tennis at Ichabod Crane and is a national gymnastics instructor. Angelika was also selected to participate in several All County Band competitions. She volunteers for her church, works with Kinderhook Lake Association by taking water samples to help determine if treatment is needed, distributed food for homeless in NYC and made food for the homeless shelter in Troy. Angelika will attend Binghamton University in the fall to study biochemistry.

 


Kristen Bertrand is the daughter of Richard and Donna Bertrand. She is a member of National Honor Society, an AP Scholar and Rider of the Month student. Kristen is the recipient of the Martin Van Buren Award. She served as treasurer of Music Club, president of school store and vice president of French Club. Kristen participated in Ichabod Crane’s music program, and was selected to participate in numerous Area All-State and All County music competitions. Kristen volunteers her time to the community through involvement in Girl Scouts, Vacation Bible School, the Valatie Community Theater and the Kinderhook Memorial Library. She will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall to major in computer science.

 

 


Emma Zlomek is the daughter of Chris and Michelle Zlomek. She is president of Student Council, vice president of National Honor Society, representative of the Student Liaison Committee and member of the SADD Club. Emma is the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, Student Sage Scholarship and Wells College 21st Century Leadership Award. As an Ichabod Crane athlete, Emma played Varsity basketball, Varsity outdoor track and served as captain of Varsity cross country. She was involved in the Booster Club summer camps and The American Red Cross. Emma will attend Palm Beach Atlantic University in the fall to study pharmacy.

 

 

 

Habib Affinnih is the son of Yahya Affinnih and Felicia Adjei. He is a member of National Honor Society, the Interact Club and a representative on the Student Liaison Committee. Habib is a two-time Rider of the Month student and a recipient of the Alice & Murray Giddings Foundation Scholarship, University at Albany Multicultural High School Achievers Award, Rochester Institute of Technology Computing Medal and the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award. He was selected to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference and Emerging Leaders of the Hudson Valley Conference. As an Ichabod Crane many time scholar athlete, Habib participated in Cross County and served as team captain for Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field. Habib has volunteered for the Valatie Free Library, Sole Hope Project and Barnwell Nursing Home. He will attend the University at Albany in the fall to major in computer science.


Dell Potts is the daughter of Joel and Mindy Potts. She is president of National Honor Society, vice president of the Class of 2018, a Rider of the Month student and member of the Interact Club. Dell is the recipient of the Elmira College Key Award. She played varsity volleyball for the past three seasons and served as co-captain during the 2017 season. Dell received several awards from the Girls Athletic Council for volleyball. She performed in Spectrum, the high school’s select choral group, and participated in several All County music festivals. She has been involved in 4H and Legion Volleyball Club. Dell will attend Hartwick College in the fall to study mathematics.

 

 

 

Jessica Alessi is the daughter of Becky Alessi. She is the student representative on the Board of Education and a representative on the Student Liaison Committee. Jessica is also vice president of the Girls Athletic Council and a member of National Honor Society. Jessica is an AP Scholar and was named as a Rider of the Month student several times. Jessica has been repeatedly recognized as a scholar athlete and was awarded several awards by the Girls Athletic Council over the years. She was captain of varsity Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track. She has also worked as a counselor for the Booster Club’s track and field camp. Jessica will attend Gettysburg College in the fall to study history.
