Gabbie Cox Signs Letter of Intent for Mercyhurst D1 Hockey

(November 29, 2018) This week, Gabbie Cox (Class of 2019) signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her education and to play Division I hockey at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. Gabbie is also receiving a full athletic scholarship from Mercyhurst University.

Gabbie started playing hockey at seven years old and has been a pivotal player on many Capital Region (Albany, NY) hockey teams. Some of her more recent accomplishments include playing on the Bethlehem 18U Boys Midget team that was crowned Tech Valley champions in 2017. As a member of the Clifton Park Dynamo team, Gabbie helped lead her team to two state finals. She was selected for the Eastern Junior Elite Prospects League (EJEPL) All-star team, and assisted her team in winning the Championship and earned all-tournament MVP. Currently, Gabbie is playing for the Boston Junior Eagles team in Boston, Mass. Her team has won the North American Hockey Association (NAHA) tournament and this past weekend, her team won the Massachusetts U19 Tier 1 State Championships. Her team has earned a spot at the U19 Nationals in Irvine, CA in April. Additionally, Gabbie has been selected the past three years to team USA Hockey development camp in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Gabbie was also a 1st team all-star in softball and soccer at Ichabod Crane.

Gabbie would like to thank her brother George for teaching her the game of hockey and for pushing her to the best she can be on the ice. She would also like to recognize her “Gram”, Agnes Cox for always coming to her games and keeping her stats. Additionally, she would like to thank her mom, dad and Ali for driving her the many miles to practice and games from Canada to locations along the East Coast and for their unconditional love and support. Finally, she would also like to provide a special thank you to her long-time hockey coach Tim Kelley for his countess hours of coaching and guidance and or always believing in her.
