Four Seats on Board of Education Up for Election on May 16
Nominating Petitions are due no later than April 17 at 5 p.m.

(March 28, 2017) Four of the nine seats on the Board of Education are up for election on May 16, 2017. District residents interested in running for a seat can obtain a nominating petition beginning March 30 through the District Clerk, Mindy Potts, in the Central Office, located in the High School Building, 2910 Route 9, Valatie, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Completed petitions are due back to the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017.

The terms of Susan Ramos and Cheryl Trefzger will expire on June 30, 2017. The terms of Dan Cohn and Michael Stead will expire on May 17, 2017.

ICHS Art Student Alexis Graham Awarded The Lori Tansky Award in 2017 HS Regional Juried Exhibit

(March 28, 2017) At the March 24 reception for the 2017 HS Regional Juried Exhibit at the Opalka Gallery at The Sage Colleges, Alexis Graham's ceramic sculpture Swollen Reef received The Lory Tansky Award! Alexis received one of the four major awards announced at the reception, and she was presented with a $100 gift certificate for Arlene's Artist Materials. This is the second year in a row that an Ichabod Crane student has won an award at this very selective annual juried exhibit. Congratulations to Alexis! Learn More

ICC Team to Compete at State Odyssey of the Mind Tournament April 8

(March 28, 2017) Five teams represented Ichabod Crane this year in the Region 4 Odyssey of the Mind Tournament held on Saturday, March 25 at the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District. Two of the teams placed second in their division and one will go to compete in the state tournament on Saturday, April 8 at Binghamton State University. Learn More

Snow Days Exceeded, School In Session April 21

(March 23, 2017) With the snowstorm the week of March 14, Ichabod Crane CSD exceeded the five snow days that were built into the 2016-17 calendar. In keeping with the make-up snow days that were approved in the school calendar a year ago, school will now be in session on Friday, April 21. The order of the snow make-up days is 4/21, 4/20, 4/19, 4/18 and 4/17. Should there be another snow day, we would make that day up on April 20. Thank you.

Elementary School Raises Nearly $8,000 for American Heart Association

(March 23, 2017) Ichabod Crane Elementary School concluded its Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser for the American Heart Association with an assembly on March 22. Physical education teacher Mr. Vooris announced that the school raised nearly $8,000 blowing its goal of $3,000 out of the water! Middle School Named a 2017 Mix It Up School

(March 23, 2017) Through the efforts of Ichabod Crane Middle School's Friends of Rachel group, the school has been named a 2017 Mix It Up School by Teaching Tolderance. These schools earned Model School designation for exemplary planning and execution of Mix It Up at Lunch Day and for their efforts to foster respect and understanding throughout the 2016-17 school year. Ten Artworks by ICHS Students Selected for 18th Annual Regional HS Juried Exhibition

Booster Club Summer Camp

Winter Sports Teams Earn NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award

(March 16, 2017) Four Ichabod Crane winter sports teams have been named by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association as Scholar-Athlete teams. ICC Students' Artwork on Display at Empire State Plaza

(March 16, 2017) The artwork of 35 Ichabod Crane students is on display at the 8th annual K-8 Empire State Plaza Art Collection Exhibit. These artworks are exhibited at the Empire State Plaza from March 3-19 on the South Concourse, closest to the Madison Avenue entrance. This year’s exhibition is representative of over 1000 works from 13 surrounding Capital Region school districts. Learn More

All-State Jazz Musician from Ichabod Crane High School Performs at State Capitol

(March 16, 2017) Ichabod Crane senior Ben L’Ecuyer, one of five trumpet players in the State of New York selected as a member of NYSSMA’s All-State Instrumental Jazz Ensemble, performed at the Empire State Plaza on Monday, March 6. ICC Students Represent Upstate Sports Zone

(March 7, 2017) ICC students Camdyn Ames (freshman) and Kaleb Aschenbrenner (senior) recently attended the annual MAAC men's basketball tournament at the Times Union Center as media representatives for Upstate Sports Zone. Non-Public School Transportation Requests Due April 1, 2017

(March 1, 2017) Ichabod Crane Central School District has the Requests For Transportation to a “Non-Public School” available to residents who are planning to enroll their children in a NON-PUBLIC SCHOOL for the 2017-2018 school year. However, a child must reside within 15 miles of the non-public school in order to qualify for Ichabod Crane bus transportation from home to school. Learn More

ICHS Student Artwork Selected for 3D Art Exhibit

(March 1, 2017) Nine ICHS students were selected to exhibit their artwork at the 2017 Art in Three Dimensions exhibit at the Mohonasen Art Gallery at Mohonasen High School, on display from Feb. 27 - Mar. 17, 2017. Students whose ceramic work will be shown are: Mary Bartkus, Tamara Canelli, Emily Canuteson, Brittany Futia, Alexis Graham, Nicole Lewis, Katherine Ploss, Erin Pulver, and Cassidy Smith. Music Students to Participate in All County March Music Festival

(Feb. 28, 2017) Students from Ichabod Crane District-wide Music Department have been selected to participate in the second of three Columbia County Music Educators Association (CCMEA) All County Festivals. This All County Music Festival, which will be hosted by the Taconic Hills Central School District on Wednesday, March 1 and Friday, March 3 (with a snow date of Thursday, March 2), include Elementary Band, Junior Chorus & Senior Band.

Sixty nine (69) Ichabod Crane students will participate in intense after school rehearsals with students selected from the other schools in Columbia County. Conductors for these groups will be from the Capitol Region and beyond. The all county experience culminates in a concert at Taconic Hills Central School District on Friday March 3rd at 7:30pm. Suzanne Guntlow Appointed District Principal of APPR, Curriculum & Instruction, Search Opens for Primary School Principal

Application deadline for principal position March 24
(Updated Feb. 24, Feb. 17, 2017) The Board of Education appointed Suzanne Guntlow, principal of Ichabod Crane Primary School, to the position of District Principal of APPR, Curriculum and Instruction, effective July 1, 2017. The appointment follows Melissa Murray's announcement that she will retire at the end of the school year after 34 years of service to the Ichabod Crane Central School District. Guntlow has served as principal since December 2013.

District Receives Positive Fiscal Stress Score for 4th Straight Year

(Feb. 8, 2017) For the fourth straight year, the Ichabod Crane Central School District received a fiscal stress score of "no designation," indicating a low level of fiscal stress, through the Office of the State Comptroller's Fiscal Stress Monitoring System. The system identifies local governments and school districts that are in fiscal stress, as well as those showing susceptibility to fiscal stress using four categories "No Designation," "Susceptible to Fiscal Stress," "Moderate Fiscal Stress," and "Significant Fiscal Stress." Letter Sent Home About Student Illness

(Jan. 19, 2017) A letter has been backpacked home with students providing parents with guidelines on when to keep a child home with illness during this cold and flu season. We are seeing an increased volume of absenteeism and students visiting the Health Office with sickness. Read the letter in English or Español.

Kindergarten Registration for Fall 2017

(Jan. 3, 2017) This Spring, Ichabod Crane Primary School will be conducting registration and screening for those students entering Kindergarten in September, 2017. In order to be eligible to enter Kindergarten this coming fall, a student must be five (5) years of age on or before December 1, 2017 and be a resident within the Ichabod Crane School District. If you have a child who meets the criteria for beginning Kindergarten in September of 2017 and have not received a mailing by mid-February, please contact us immediately. Learn More
