Congratulations 3rd Grade Passport Readers!

Passport Readers

The finishers of the Ichabod Crane Primary School 3rd grade reading challenge celebrated their accomplishment with an ice cream party in the library on Feb. 14. The Passport Readers Challenge is an optional program developed by librarian Ms. Moss and funded by the ICC PTA. The program encourages students to travel around the world through the pages of a book. Participants read seven books for each of the five levels of the challenge. Congratulations to all of our 3rd grade readers!

Read for Ronald McDonald House

Read for Ronald McDonald House

(Feb. 3, 2017) The Primary School kicked off Read for Ronald McDonald House with an assembly on Feb. 3. The "Great Guntlow" led her reading warriors (students who participated last year) back home victorious to the cheers of their friends and families. Last year, these and the other reading warriors who participated, raised over $2,400 for the Ronald McDonald House. The program will begin on Monday, February 13 and run through March 16. All forms and donations must be turned into the Primary School by March 16. Packets went home with the students today. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to read and to help the boys and girls and their families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House when the children are being treated at local hospitals. Primary School Book Election Results In!

Book Election(Nov. 8, 2016) The Primary School has wrapped up their "election" in the Primary School Library. All students were invited to vote for whether they thought fiction books (from the author's imagination) or nonfiction books (texts that are informational) are the best for our school. Second and third graders made campaign posters for the "candidate" of their choice and presented their posters to their classmates. These persuasive posters were also shared with the kindergartners and first graders. The ballots have been counted and the results are in: fiction books received 229 votes, nonfiction received 224 votes.

Primary School Welcomes Author Karen Kaufman Orloff

Author visits

(Oct. 26, 2016) The Primary School was excited to welcome author Karen Kaufman Orloff on October 26! Ms. Kaufman Orloff has published several children’s books, including the popular “I Wanna” series.

Ms. Kaufman Orloff is speaking with our second and third graders about how a book is created from the idea in a writer's head to a published book. She is reading a couple of her books to students and working with the third graders on writing exercises.

Thank you to the ICC PTA for supporting this visit through its Arts & Enrichment program.

Helping Hands - Donating to the Valatie Food Pantry

For several years, we at the Primary School have had a weekly collection for the Valatie Food Pantry to assist our friends in the community who may need a helping hand. It has been a huge success, and the Food Pantry counts on us to help keep their shelves full throughout the year!

Won't you please consider picking up an extra item or two each week to put in the collection box in the lobby? Pick up is every Friday! It's a great way to teach your child about generosity and helping others in our own community. View the flyer
