(March 3, 2017) The Traveling Lantern Theatre Company performed Bilbo's Journey for ICC 2nd and 3rd grade students on Thursday, March 2. Bilbo's Journey is the tale of a home loving little Hobbit who finds himself on an adventure he could never have imagined. During his journey, he meets elves, trolls, a wizard, a dragon and something strange called a Gollum. During the interactive performance, students traveled with the brave little Hobbit through dangerous and wondrous terrain, and then, happily, back home again. Be sure to ask your child all about it.
Bilbo's Journey was funded through the ICC PTA Arts and Education program. Thanks PTA!
The finishers of the Ichabod Crane Primary School 3rd grade reading challenge celebrated their accomplishment with an ice cream party in the library on Feb. 14. The Passport Readers Challenge is an optional program developed by librarian Ms. Moss and funded by the ICC PTA. The program encourages students to travel around the world through the pages of a book. Participants read seven books for each of the five levels of the challenge. Congratulations to all of our 3rd grade readers!
(Feb. 3, 2017) The Primary School kicked off Read for Ronald McDonald House with an assembly on Feb. 3. The "Great Guntlow" led her reading warriors (students who participated last year) back home victorious to the cheers of their friends and families. Last year, these and the other reading warriors who participated, raised over $2,400 for the Ronald McDonald House. The program will begin on Monday, February 13 and run through March 16. All forms and donations must be turned into the Primary School by March 16. Packets went home with the students today. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to read and to help the boys and girls and their families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House when the children are being treated at local hospitals. Second and third graders made campaign posters for the "candidate" of their choice and presented their posters to their classmates. These persuasive posters were also shared with the kindergartners and first graders. The ballots have been counted and the results are in: fiction books received 229 votes, nonfiction received 224 votes.

For several years, we at the Primary School have had a weekly collection for the Valatie Food Pantry to assist our friends in the community who may need a helping hand. It has been a huge success, and the Food Pantry counts on us to help keep their shelves full throughout the year!
Won't you please consider picking up an extra item or two each week to put in the collection box in the lobby? Pick up is every Friday! It's a great way to teach your child about generosity and helping others in our own community. View the flyer
