General Information

The Board of Education is the official policy-making body of our school district. Nine members serve on the Board, without pay, and are elected to three-year terms. Board elections take place in May along with the annual school budget vote.

Board Holds Retreat to Learn About Responsibilies, Roles and Goal Setting

(Aug. 7, 2017) The Ichabod Crane Board of Education held a retreat on July 31 in the Ichabod Crane High School library. Jamie McPherson of the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) facilitated the four-hour session in which board members learned about effective organizations and leadership, roles and responsibilities, communication and the goal setting process.

"This was a great opportunity for our board to collaborate, reflect on the roles and responsibilities of board members and start the goal setting process," Superintendent Michael Vanyo said. "We plan to continue our work in October with NYSSBA and develop goals that will set the framework for the 2018-19 school year."


Welcome & Nelson Elected to Board Leadership

(July 17, 2017 During the Board of Education's organizational meeting on July 11, Anthony Welcome was re-elected president and Matthew Nelson was elected vice president. Susan Ramos and Daniel Cohn were sworn in for new three-year terms. Congratulations to all!

Residents Approve Budget & Bus Purchase; Elect Four to the Board of Education

(May 16, 2017) Ichabod Crane Central School District residents have approved the $39,189,544 budget for the 2017-18 school year by a vote of 643 (yes) to 203 (no). The estimated tax levy increase is 1.47 percent, which meets the District’s tax levy limit under the state’s tax levy cap legislation.

Voters elected Susan Ramos, Tammy Crawford, Dan Cohn and Brendan Caluneo to four seats on the Board of Education. Results are:

  • Susan Ramos - 535 votes; Elected to 3 year term ( July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020)
  • Tammy Crawford - 594 votes; Elected to 3 year term ( May 16, 2017 through June 30, 2020)
  • Craig Luckfield - 387 votes
  • Dan Cohn - 570 votes; Elected to 3 year term ( July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020)
  • Brendan Caluneo - 420 votes; Elected to 1 year term ( May 16, 2017 through June 30, 2018)

Residents also approved a $477,789 bus proposition to purchase six (6) school buses by a vote of 628 (yes) to 218 (no).

Board of Education Passes Motion to Extend Cold War Tax Exemption

(Jan. 17, 2017) The Ichabod Crane CSD Board of Education unanimously approved a motion to extend a tax exemption to veterans of the Cold War who primarily reside in the district. Governor Cuomo signed legislation in August which allows school districts the option to grant Cold War Veterans an exemption from school taxes. Cold War Veterans were already eligible to receive an exemption from town & county taxes and now this legislation allows the schools to grant it as well. Cohn and Stead Sworn In as New Board Members

(Oct. 6, 2016) In September, the Ichabod Crane Board of Education appointed Daniel Cohn of Stockport and Michael Stead of Valatie to fill vacancies created by the resignations of John Chandler and Tracy Farrell. Both will serve until May 16, 2017. New York State law allows school boards to fill such vacancies by appointment until the next regular election in May. Learn More


Board Adopts Updated Strategic Operating Plan

(Oct. 5, 2016) The Ichabod Crane Central School District Board of Education first approved the Strategic Operating Plan on May 12, 2015. The Committees met in September 2016 to update the plan which was adopted by the Board on October 4, 2016. View the Strategic Operating Plan
