ICE PTA Committees

There are many events and committees you could become involved with at ICC PTA. Contact Tracey Freeman or Christine White, PTA Presidents, if you are interested.

Activity Nights

We will be planning 5 or 6 nights this year. There are many ways you can help, depending on the night.

Skate Factory or Movie Night Activities

Tickets need to be pre-sold for these nights.

Breakfast with Santa

This is a great event but it takes many hands to make this day successful every year. We usually run in 2 hour shifts to accommodate volunteers' schedules and time with their families. If you would like to spend the day helping, volunteers arrive at 6 AM and leave at 12:30 PM.

Prior to the day we need help with

Day of breakfast

Fundraiser

Time commitments for the fundraiser are flexible. You can volunteer for 1 hour or more, whatever your schedule permits.

Activities include:

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon

Activities include:

School Pictures

Comes twice a year- once in the fall (October) and then in the Spring (April).

Volunteers are needed for all schools. They are there to make sure the kids' hair is combed, collars down or up, and that they are happy little campers. Also while they wait, the volunteers watch over them in the hall or while they are waiting in line to get their picture taken.

MHG and MVB it is usually a lot easier, and only takes 2 volunteers for each school.

Primary needs at least 3 volunteers for the 3 camera set ups. Volunteers are needed at Primary from 8:45 AM - 2:30 PM. If a volunteer can only come for an hour, that is fine; we can work with them.

Race to Read

Race to Read is a program to encourage students to be interested in reading. Three times a year, October, February, May a volunteer comes to your child's library time and reads them a theme-focused story and then hands out either worksheets, fun sheets and bookmarks, stickers or erasers. After a story is read to the class, the volunteer invites the children to a table to pick out an age appropriate book for them to take home and keep. Books are provided by the PTA.

What is needed

Volunteers for stamping books at least twice a year.

Volunteers to come to the library which has different schedules throughout the day. A person may volunteer for one 1st grade class which is only 20 minutes, but they would be required to be there 10 minutes early to prepare the room, to a 40 slot for 2nd graders or MHG or MVB. In MVB and MHG, a game is not played. They are given the worksheets, fun giveaways and, of course, the book. We do read to them also. But it is the Primary school where we need the most volunteers, since there are several classes per day; so several volunteers are needed or a few who like to stay for the day.

Book Fairs

This is held twice a year - once in the fall and once in the Spring. It is a night when parents come into the school to either meet with the teachers or are coming to view their child's work. We are set up in the lobbies of all the schools on different nights. At that time, we have a wide selection of books available for you to purchase for yourself or your child. The money profits your children's library at their own schools.

In the Spring, we have something called Authors Fair. During the year your child is writing special reports, or stories or profiles of themselves. This night is when they can share it with you. The teachers set up tables in the gym and you come in the certain night that your school is having it. This is when you can view your child's special project. Also at this time, we have books available to purchase, which again profits your child's library. Cash and check only. Also either 1 or 2 of the schools will have an author come in and set up for a signing of their books. Your child will have been hearing about it from their teacher. You will be notified by backpack mailing who the special author will be and all the details. The author is also paid for by the PTA.

Volunteers

Primary - We need people to set up, close down, and take sales during the event.

MHG and MVB- the same.

It all depends on if you want to volunteer for an hour or 1/2 hour or 3 hours. Whatever you choose, we appreciate your help!

Field Days

There are five different field days. There is a separate day for each of the Primary grades (K, 1 and 2). There is one day set aside for MVB and a day for MHG; all three grades in each building participate on the same day at different times. A volunteer's responsibility would be to run a game which the children have already been practicing in physical education class. They already know what to do; you just supervise. These events are non-competitive and fun for all, especially the volunteer! Field Days are held in June. The dates are announced in May. The time needed at the Primary School Field Days would be from 8:45 AM to no later than 11 AM. The Field Days in MVB and MHG go all day, so you choose if you would like to play in the morning or the afternoon- or all day!

Kindergarten Screening

When the young children come into the Primary School for usually the first time, it is to screen for Kindergarten, or "play Kindergarten games" as we say. Some are nervous, some are scared, some are excited. A volunteer's job is to escort the child to the library to play the screening games and then escort them back to their parents. Screening is done at the beginning of April. Shifts are three hours a piece, but the time flies and usually, by the end of it, you have made a few new kindergarten friends yourself.

PTA Newsletter

Help is needed once or twice a month printing, sorting and delivering the newsletter to all three schools and the teachers' mailboxes. This usually takes no more than two hours.

Nutrition Committee

The Nutrition Committee represents parents, faculty and community members who are interested in improving the nutrition and health of our children at home and at school. The committee provides education programs on nutrition for school staff, parents and students. We also work with school officials to affect positive changes in the school lunch program and school nutrition policies. Volunteer commitments vary depending on the activity -- activities include providing healthy snacks for a PTA or school event, staffing an educational table, meeting with school officials, sharing nutrition information with other committee members, and researching ways to make healthier snacks available for families.
