Four District residents have submitted their petitions to run for three vacant positions on the Ichabod Crane Board of Education. Each vacancy is for a three-year term.

They are listed below as they will appear on the ballot on Tuesday, May 21, from 8 am to 9 pm in the High School gym.

There will be a "Meet the Candidate" forum following the public 2013-14 budget hearing on Tuesday, May 14. The budget hearing begins at 7 pm in the High School auditorium.
Every school district officer must be able to read and write.
Must be a qualified voter of the district.
Does not necessarily have to be a taxpayer.
No more than one family member shall be a member of the same Board of Education.
No employee of a Board of Education may be a member of such Board.
May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office.
Board members must have been residents in the district for at least one year prior to their election (Sec 2102).

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year at the Ichabod Crane Central School District. On a personal note, this is my forty-second year having some role in this school district. I taught at the elementary school for seventeen years, was an administrator for twenty-one years and will be completing serving for a sixth year on the Board of Education. I am proudly serving as president for the 2012-2013 school year.
Last June, the community overwhelmingly said “yes” to our school budget. It passed as a result of much hard work on the part of many people. This work began with Interim Superintendent Lee Bordick and I wish to thank him for his efforts over the past two years on behalf of our children.
Our first goal for the upcoming school year will be to hire our next permanent superintendent. The process has started, and we hope to have it completed with a successful appointment before the end of the 2012 calendar year.
These are challenging times for public education, but also an opportunity to improve instruction, for our children. This will help them compete in our ever evolving world. Together, with my board colleagues, I thank you for your support in the past and pledge that we will continue to strive toward delivering a top quality education to our children at a cost that the community will support.

The Board of Education approved its Vision and Goals for the District for the 2012-2013 school year. The Board finalized the document at its meeting on Tuesday, September 4.
