Students in the Ichabod Crane Central School District participate in general music classes in grades K-8. Choral and instrumental performance opportunities begin for students in grade 5. At the Middle and High School, select vocal and instrumental groups are also an option for students who successfully pass an audition. All County Music Performance organizations and New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) performance honors organizations are offered for advanced musicians who meet membership criteria. Music theory and theatre classes are also offered at the High School.

STATE CHOIR:
Lissa Herzing, an Ichabod Crane High School senior, has been accepted into the prestigious New York State 2012 All State Choir. She performed at the Eastman School of Music with the best high school musicians of New York State during November 29 through December 2. Lissa was the only Columbia County student accepted into All State this year. Thousands of students auditioned for this honor last spring at Solo and Ensemble festivals throughout the state.
AREA ALL STATE MUSIC FESTIVAL:
Paul Giammarco, Lissa Herzing, Ethan Lincoln, Spencer Perry, Lars Schertel and Sara Schomaker were selected to attend the New York State Student Music Association (NYSSMA) Area All State Music Festival on November 16 and 17 at Roy C. Ketcham High School in Wappingers Falls, NY. In order to be selected to participate in the festival, the students were required to prepare and perform a solo for a NYSSMA judge, as well as sight read a short melody. The highest scoring students in the Hudson Valley region were selected to participate in this event. Ichabod Crane band students represented four out of the five Columbia County band students who attended the festival.
Students participated in intense rehearsals on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. The experience culminated in a concert on Saturday afternoon under the direction of conductors from around the Capital District and beyond.
